Top 10 Excuses Made by Programmers

Good programmer's never re-invent the wheel, so even the excuses when something doesn't work or get done are pretty much the same across languages :) We have compiled the top 10 excuses you are likely to hear if you work with a programmer, the computer department or the tech support team.

10. "I haven't touched that module in weeks!"

9. "It must be a hardware problem."

8. "Somebody must have changed my code."

7. "Did you check for a virus on your system?"

6. "You must have the wrong version."

5. "That's weird..."

4. "There must be something wrong with your data"

3. "It's never done that before."

2. "It worked yesterday."

and the best one

1. "It works on my machine"

Okay, this comes as a big surprise to us. While trying to locate the Superhero song from Microsoft, (sung by an Indian rock group Parikrama) I typed in "Microsoft.co.in" and reached a site with no connection to Microsoft what-so-ever; a company called eTechSupport. The domain Whois records point to:

Registrant Name:Piyush Somani
Registrant Organization:eTechSupport.net
Registrant Street1:303, Rohan Heights, Model Colony
Registrant City:Nashik
Registrant State/Province:Maharashtra

Did Microsoft forget to renew this domain too, like Hotmail.com? Or is a victim of a hijacked/cybersquatted domain?

Ever wondered which sites have changed the way you worked or thought about the Internet? The Observer has a compiled a list of the top 15 such sites. Here's the quick list:

Ummmm Orkut.com is missing from the link. Hope to see it next time in this list.

Many a times friends ask me give the address of a working proxy server, so that they can access the blocked websites in their Offices or Computer Labs. A proxy server is a kind of buffer between your computer and the Internet resources you are accessing. Thus by connecting to a Proxy Server you can actually bypass the filtering mechanism.

Thousands of free Proxy servers are available on Google results. But why searching for a Proxy Server when Google can itself be used as a proxy.

This trick is slightly old but pretty cool nevertheless. Just use the following syntax:

http://www.google.com/translate?langpair=en|en&u=www.site.com

Replace the www.site.com with the site that you are trying to access. In this case, Google will access the pages like a web proxy and translate it back to the same language (english to english here). If you are accessing a site in a different language change the langpair to the appropriate tags.

Do remember that this technique is not guaranteed to work everywhere or with every kind of firewall or access-control system out there, nor will it hide your IP address. But do let me know how the Google proxy idea worked for you.

Who has time to make their own online signage in PhotoShop (or in my favorite image editor, Gimp)? ImageChef will create stylish images and animations for you with your own custom text blended into it.

Just type the text you want into one of dozens of templates, then click Preview to see the results. Now you can save the image and use it anywhere. You can also post it to your blog (or MySpace), send it as an e-mail greeting, or even send it to your cell phone to use as wallpaper. You can also generate ImageChef icons to use in your favorite IM client.

BitTorrent technology works on sharing files among users and there is no centralized server, where data remains available all the time. Because of this reason almost all registration-torrent-site (private trackers, always faster download than public trackers, but you have to upload equal amount afterwards) have policy that every member, who download something using torrents from their site, have to upload also.
It simply follows "Give n Take" philosophy. Trackers monitor their Uploading-Downloading ratio. If user do not maintain the minimum ratio, trackers put restrictions on his downloading.

Here is the (best) method to download from any private tracker without reducing your ratio. All you need is to download bitcomet and follow these steps:

1. Download any torrent from private tracker and open it with BitComet.

2. Wait until you get a green arrow, this which means that the download started (green arrow exactly on the left of the torrent name).

3. Immediately after you see the green arrow, right click the torrent and choose properties -> advanced

4. Place the cursor exactly after the dot "." and exactly before the "net" or "com" or "info" or "org".
5. Just press enter (return keyboard key), so you can split the tracker's address in two lines,

6. Return to main window and watch your download continuing, and watch the tracker jamming.

N.B.- The Torrent will remain in ur profile for almost an hour.Your Download n Upload amount will not change During this time. This is exactly what happens when your computer crashes (you get "ghost torrents").If u want to seed to improve ur ratio,or if u want an updated list of peers, stop the torrent, correct the Announce URL, and start the torrent again..
